Four-Season Gardening

When you're designing an outdoor space, it's important, especially in cold climates like Boston, to plan for winter interest. Plants with colorful fruit, like the Japanese crab apples shown here, are a good way to achieve this. Another means is through the use of attractive hardscape: stone walls, gazebos, arbors and other permanent structures will provide your garden with the "bones" it needs to look good during the long winter months.
